Exact-fraction rule: comparisons use cross-products, operation answers reduce to lowest terms, and mixed-number conversions use exact improper-fraction arithmetic. Subtraction is generated non-negative.

What the fraction controls actually change

Like vs. unlike denominators: addition and subtraction can stay at the introductory same-denominator level or force students to reason across different denominators.

Simplifying: prompts are deliberately generated with a common factor so there is something real to reduce.

Equivalent fractions: the denominator is scaled by an integer factor and the missing numerator must scale by the same factor.

Answer keys: computed answers are reduced to lowest terms so the teacher copy is not just a raw unreduced result.

Frequently asked questions

Does the fraction generator reduce answers?

Yes. Operation answers are reduced to lowest terms before they appear in the preview or answer key.

Can I practice like denominators only?

Yes. For addition and subtraction, choose Like denominators, Unlike denominators, or a mix of both.

Does subtraction create negative fractions?

No. The operands are ordered so generated subtraction answers are zero or positive.

Can I make simplifying and equivalent-fraction worksheets?

Yes. Simplify mode creates reducible fractions, while Equivalent mode asks for a missing numerator with a scaled denominator.

Can I download a PDF with an answer key?

Yes. The browser creates a Letter or A4 PDF locally, with an optional second answer-key page.
